I created this self-directed portrait of my father using color mapping to explore how a portrait can remain recognizable without using traditional colors. Inspired by pop art, I challenged myself to use bold colors and contrasting shapes to portray my father in an unexpected way. Through this process, I experimented with color theory while strengthening my skills with acrylic paint.

This oil painting was inspired by a black and white photograph. I used different shades of blue to enhance the emotions that could not be seen in the original photo. I chose these rich colors to create a calm and reflective feeling that expresses what the subject may be feeling without having to put those emotions into words.

I created this portrait inspired by David Hockney’s photo collages, which he called “joiners.” First, I took multiple photos of my mother's face from different angles. Then I arranged the photos using Photoshop to create a fragmented collage that became the basis for my painting. Angular planes and overlapping shapes break the face into a striking, almost Cubist composition. I used layered shades of gray and made the eyes steel blue to create a pop of color. I wanted to experiment with new ways of making portraits and combining photography, digital art, and painting.

This is a portrait of my grandpa on his wedding day. Using warm colors, layered brushstrokes and careful blending, I focused on capturing his expression to convey pride, anticipation and excitement, creating a meaningful keepsake for my family.
